A short stay in Narita offered me the opportunity to visit my first confluence in Asia. Although I neither speak nor read Japanese I found my way around thanks to thorough preparation and a little help from some friendly Japanese people. To get there by train I took the JR line to Toride station where I transfered to the Kanto Railway Joso Line to Mitsukaido. From Mitsukaido station it was a 30 minute walk, mostly along a river, to the confluence. Since it is situated in a rice paddy, winter is the ideal time for a visit because the paddies are dry and you can walk on them. When I was there it was cold and windy but clear. On the north view photo you can see Mount Tsukuba which is famous in Japan for its legends, its Shinto shrine and its panoramic view from the 870 meter high summit.
