Maps aren't always right.
Continued from 54N-09W
Having got turned away yesterday tea-time at 55N-06W, as it turned out for no reason at all as it wasn't even in their field, I decided to do this one first today. That way when I called back at 55N-06W it at least be a civilised hour!
Now you have to remember that the only previous visit here was back in 2000. I was therefore expecting some discrepancies between that report and reality, I didn't expect Mapquest to also be wrong!
As you come up New Line road it shows the CP to be past the cross-road on the left. It is actually before the cross-road on the right in front of a cow shed....
I knocked on the door and got permission to wander. I'm not sure the man I spoke to fully understood why I was there though. A while later his son, Robert Hamilton - who now runs the farm - came by for a chat about the project, the weather and just stuff in general, like being in a field in the middle of nowhere at 9am on a Sunday morning :-)
While the gps did it's averaging stuff I got on with documenting the visit, including the new house off to the East and the Rainbow that came out.
after 15 minutes accuracy is nailed down to just 4.9 feet, altitude of 660 feet. I packed up my gear and made my way back to the car. As I did so I passed Robert in the field opposite feeding the lambs.
