21-Sep-2009 -- I started from Oslo at 04:50 this morning, then flew Lufthansa via Frankfurt to San Francisco where I picked up a rental car. I am going to attend a conference which starts on Tuesday, two days from now, so the acclimatization time gave me the opportunity to attempt a couple more confluences!
It took about 1:50 to drive from the airport to this point, it is very easy to reach as it is located less than 10 m from a rural highway.
The house which previous visitors have noticed on the opposite side of the road is still there, but it seems to be totally empty, so it was OK to park on the curb of the road, just past the house, then cross the road (very carefully!) pass the barbed wire fence which is located about 3-4 m west of the point.
I had very good GPS reception, with my Quest showing full WAAS differential positioning. My 76CSx also picked up the WAAS satellite, but the firmware in that model takes significantly longer before it shows that it is using those correction signals.
After I had taken all the required photos, I got back into the rental car and drove on to Sonora Oaks, where I would stay the night before attempting 38°N120°W the next day.
