02-Oct-2016 -- We made the trip to Milano in order to attend the 2016 ESICM annual meeting and present results from our team.
As usual I saved one day for a touristic trip in the area. We chose to visit the closest CP from Milano: 45N 10E and we visited 45N 9E on the day we drove back home.
This point has been visited five times, the last one being only 11 months ago by Richard and Jana Ohnesorge.
The point is easy to reach by car after a 90 minutes drive from Milano. It lies in a field that was recently ploughed and we could zero the point within 2 minutes. The area offers a typical plain landscape crossed by the river Po which made it an agricultural land for centuries. Most of the farms surrounding the point are currently abandoned or ruined as a result of the agricultural restructuring that occurred in the beginning of the 21st century.
The whole area seemed to have suffered from draught during the preceding summer months and a number of fields were unharvested and the growth of the corn in the field was obviously stopped due to lack of rain or irrigation.
We visited the very nice city of Cremona on our way home to Milano. This city is world famous for being home to the renowned Stradivarius violin and cello builders during the 17th and 18th centuries.
