27-May-2023 -- In Halberstadt there is an organ on which the piece "ORGAN²/ASLSP" by John Cage is performed, with a planned duration of 639 years. For a long time I have wanted to visit this exciting art project on site. A two-day bike tour enabled me to visit three old towns worth seeing (Brunswick, Wolfenbüttel and Halberstadt) and two confluence points, – and finally found its culmination in the visit of the Cage Organ. I visited the 52°N 10°E confluence point on the first day of the tour, which took me from Bodenburg to Wolfenbüttel. Photos of this bike tour can be seen here on Komoot.

The confluence point is on the slope of a hill in a field about 20 m from a forest path. From here you have a wide view of the nearby town of Evensen and the surrounding hilly, agricultural landscape.

Interestingly, about 200 m southwest of this, a monument was erected in the forest (see photos), which indicates the confluence point on an information board, but it is not in the right place. Nevertheless, I recommend visiting this monument.

On the spot, I had to realize that the plants in the field, which were already dense and knee-high, would make it impossible to find the confluence point – if I didn't want to trample them down. Luckily I found a tractor track from the edge of the field with no crops that I could follow to very close to the point. As the screenshot of my smartphone GPS app shows, I was close enough.

I document my bike rides (and also a few hikes) to confluence points here on Komoot.
