05-Apr-2026 -- I went on an Easter weekend trip to the Fichtelgebirge with a group of friends. And, as the confluence 50 N 12 E isn’t far from our cottage in Lochau, my whole hiking group ‘had’ to come along to visit it.
We parked the car in the car park at the granit quarry in Kössain (Schurbach) and set off on foot from there on a hiking trip. In wonderful sunshine, we followed the forest path alongside the quarry, then headed north along the (still) signposted winter cross-country ski trail. The path was covered in wonderfully soft moss, making it a real pleasure to walk on. Back on the official hiking trail, we turned onto hiking trail no. 6 heading east.
The confluence is right on the side of the forest path and is therefore easy to reach.
Not far from it is the Steinberghütte. From there, we continued our hiking trip, passing the Burgstein rock, the Haberstein and the Kösseine (altitude: 939m). After some refreshing drinks and time to enjoy the view, the descent back to the car park was just a 2-kilometre walk.
Let’s see if this little trip has managed to get my fellow travellers excited about the idea of confluence points. :)
