07-Mar-2001 -- Our fourth confluence and the second one
in France. We visited this one on a trip from Karlsruhe
to Paris, since it was conveniently located on our way.
N49 E003 would normally be on the banks of the Marne
river, near the small village of Isles-les-Meldeuses.
However, with the amount of rain we've had in the last
few days, it was on a muddy island in the flood.
It was not possible to make it to the exact confluence
spot without getting very muddy, and we lacked the
gumboots required for such an exercise, so we contented
ourselves with getting within about 40 meters of the
confluence point. Picture 3 is taken from this spot,
looking towards the confluence. Picture 1 looks in the
opposite direction, showing the bridge over the Marne
river from which the panorama (Picture 2) was taken.
This time, there was no official sign of any kind, but
note the (unintentional) arrow pointing towards the
confluence spot in picture 4.
