26-Feb-2005 -- Dan eMailed me and said he wanted to get out and do something. Both of us were stir crazy from work and needed some exercise. So, I suggested a midnight confluence not too far away.
I drove to Dan's. We quickly packed up and drove out toward Mojave. We turned west toward CA58 just around 11:30pm. I had the turn off on the GPS, yet we still missed it in the dark. The map on my GPS was off about a hundred feet. We went to the next u-turn and doubled back, this time almost missing it but being able to throw it in reverse. We continued south on Neuralia but were stopped by a large muddy puddle that took up the entire width of the dirt road.
We were in a car so we stopped and started walking. It was about 1.25 miles straight-line. On the way we saw an eerie looking building. The moon was bright enough that we didn't really need a flashlight. We continued and found our way to the confluence. A fresh (after the rains) pair of vehicle tracks were on the last road before the confluence. I zeroed out the GPS and found a "monument" of sorts about 10ft east of my zero point. Obviously someone has recently been there. The monument was a tipi of sticks with a white stone underneath. It was definitely man-made. We could hear coyotes in the distance and the wind was non-existent. Green grasses were growing everywhere... even on the roads. On our way back a train (confluence train) came by. And I took a pic of the eerie structure that turned out to be a blue trailer. The temperature was between 40F and 35F. I zeroed out my GPS at 12:01am.
