13-May-2002 -- My route from Reno to LA for a job interview took me down US 395 to CA 14 through Mojave. It is only a 10 mile detour on CA 58 from Mojave to the confluence 35N118W. A network of desert dirt roads could have taken me to within just a few meters of the confluence (hindsight). As it was I found one that got me within a quarter of a mile and chose to walk across the open desert to the confluence rather than drive around searching for just the right road to get closer. As is evident from photos #1 (to the north) and #2 (to the west), the landscape is typical southern California desert with pretty much the same scenery in whichever direction you choose to look. There is a water pipeline (photo #3) that runs about 20 meters south of the confluence (with its attendant service "road"). Photo #4 shows all zeros on my GPSR.
