09-Jan-2011 -- Our try on N44 E5 was successful today. We left Montpellier for Avignon and then on the D28 road through Montfavet and Saint Saturnin.
We stopped our car 840 meters west of the CP and walked through the fields and apple tree orchards. We reached the CP from the west ; it lies just one meter south from a hedge row between 2 turnip fields.
The CP is easy to reach despite the muddy tracks separating the fields. From time to time between the hedges, we could have a North-East view on the Mont Ventoux (Altitude 1912 m)which is a very famous stage during the annual "Tour de France" Bike race. The summit is located 29.5 km bee-line from the CP. Today the Provence's giant was under a heavy winter storm.
On our way back we stopped shortly in Montfavet to visit the medieval monastery and fortified church. This huge historic monument was built between 1341 and 1347.Some of the architects and the stonecraft men who worked on this project participated also in the construction of the "Cité des Papes" in Avignon.
