#1: It's in there.

(visited by Gordon Spence)

30-Jun-2012 -- Finally!!!

What does that mean?

My first visit here was nearly nine years ago (Sep 2003) and at that visit I got to within 0.5s of the absolute spot.

My next visit in February 2004 (with the BBC) saw me get to 0.2s from the point.

In July 2008 I made an International visit here with Dave Patton the Canadian coordinator. At that visit we settled for standing by the gate.

I wasn't back here until April 2010 I decided to go past the gate and try and get as close as possible while on 1W. Got pretty close that time.

Another 15 months pass before my next visit another International visit with Shawn Fleming this time getting to within 1/40 s of the actual spot. Ever closer.

...and now twelve months further on I am back here again. This time it looks a little different, very quiet, very clean (for a farm) and very tidy. Almost like it isn't in use?

As I am standing pondering this a blue pickup pulls up and the man inside asks if I am trying to make a delivery. I explain the project and he replies "yes there is a plaque here somewhere". I explain I am trying to get as close as possible to which the reply was "sure, no problem."

Sounds like permission to me!

The door to the main barn where the point lies is open so I slip inside. The first that strikes you is the distinct lack of any animal smell, at all. Perhaps it is now unused, this farm should have 200 head of cattle, yet the floor is dry and clean.

The roof is corrugated plastic and I get a relatively good signal, a lock on 6 satellites. Wander up and down trying to get the elusive ten zero's.

I've only brought my phone as camera so when I get the exact spot I snap off the proof. The photo isn't very clear but the accuracy was showing 14 feet.

Finally!!!

This confluence point is conquered properly, only took nine years.

The only other point in the UK I haven't zero'd out is this one at 55N-03W and that isn't likely to change any time soon.
