20-May-2013 -- After flying to L.A. to spend some time with friends out there, my wife flew back home to Fort Collins, CO and I embarked on a roadtrip from Southern California to Northern Colorado with my friend Kurt to help move him and his stuff in a rental car. Saw that this confluence was pretty close to I-15 outside of Barstow so we decided to make a pit-stop that morning on our way out of the city toward Vegas. It only took about fifteen minutes of drive time through Barstow and north on Irwin.
From where we parked the car along the access road off of Fossil Bed Rd. along the power lines, the GPS said 1.03 miles to the confluence as the crow flies. Because it's so flat and deserty out there we were pretty much able to traverse the necessary terrain as the crow flies anyway, jogging along the power lines for about three quarters of a mile before branching slightly right and walking through the joshua trees and prickly things to the actual point, keeping our eyes peeled for snakes.
Zeroing out the GPS took the shortest amount of time I've required yet. Time was around 9am and temperature was a sunny 72 degrees with a light breeze. Simply gorgeous. And Kurt's first confluence!
