17-Aug-2013 -- This confluence visit is the first out of 2 visits that I made during a week-end in France.
After work on Friday, I left Zurich by train and arrived in Roanne in the late evening after changing trains in Genève and Lyon. From Roanne train station, I measured 6.5 km to the confluence. I had taken my bicycle with me such that I could immediately paddle in direction of the confluence point. Since it was already dark, it made no sense to visit the confluence point. So I searched for a place to sleep and luckily found a high hay bale to sleep on.
The next morning with the very first daylight I woke up when a car drove into the remote field stopping 10 m from my hay-pile. First, I was scared but then I saw that a man was stealing hay! He couldn’t see me because I was resting on the high pile of hay. He hastily gathered hay in his car. Only when I loudly called out “Monsieur!” he looked around irritated and drove away.
Right after this incident I rode the remaining 3 km to the confluence, which is just 30 m from the Road D53 called Route de Villemontais. After crossing a ditch and a cattle fence and walking 30 m on the meadow, I reached the confluence point. In all the excitement, I had not noticed the herd of cows on the field just 30 m from the confluence. Only after the documentation I saw that potential danger.
Just 50 m from the confluence point is a ceramics shop at the intersection.
I continued the bicycle trip planning to visit the confluence 110 km further south.
