09-Apr-2001 -- Watering can at 51N 12E
On the way to another Exedition ("Lightweight-hiking") we visited
this beautiful CP in Saxony. It was a warm sunny day in the spring, greatly
desired.
The CP lays only 10km far off our highway-route. Country roads led us across
fields, hills and small villages. After we had to drive round a building
plot, we stood at the entry of the village "Rossendorf".
The village lies at a small mountain and has only a handful of houses. A
big sheep-pasture creeps close to the hillside. Hundreds of sheep bleated
when the strange guests came. Which surprise would the CP have for us?
Before starting the CP-discovery I wanted to know as exact as possibly where
the CP is and how it looks there. So I took the satellite-atlas "D-Sat" (from russian satellites) for help. Compared with the position of
"MAPQUEST" I could localize the point very exactly.
Should it actually lie on a property at the edge of the village? And
actually: as we arrived at the yard of the last house, the GPS showed only
60 m up to the CP. The way at the property along was expelled as
private-way, therefore we asked the owner. He seemed not very interested and
let us pass. Maybe he thought that we were geologists.
Following the GPS on the way we were only 10 m far off the CP. We stood in
front of a wire-netting-fence and the GPS showed exactly into the romantic
back-garden. And we saw something there - a watering can -next to fruit
trees, an old garden-chair, dung-hill and wheelbarrow. It was useless to
lean over the fence. The GPS didn't want to change on 0000 yet. Fauli has
found a hidden garden-door and so we sneaked into the garden. It was a
lovely and magical place with this watering-can. Splendid sun, blue sky,
yellow gorse blooms at the fence, wide meadow-valley with brook and sheep.
We hurried hundred of km on the search for fame, and we found a place full
of grace and beauty. And I tried to feel the energy of the focus, there the
global rounding 12th longitude and 51th latitude confluence.
Lovely greetings to CP 51E 12E.
