#1: Looking North from N51 W00

(visited by Peter Thompson and Kim Thompson)

26-Dec-2005 -- What do you do on your Christmas Break? Well this year Kim and I took off to explore the South East of England with the hope of visiting two spots, Battle and Hastings. This area of course included a CP that we had not visited before, so it was put on the list of things to do, and it was on the way..

We left Oxford early in the morning on the 26th of December, headed into Ikea at Croydon and arrived just before the store opened with the post Christmas Sale, did what we had to do and got out into the country side ASAP!

We had a great trip heading towards the CP stopping and visiting small villages and really just driving towards the CP and not looking at any maps enjoying what we saw on the way which was lovely country side. The weather was very cold, but the sky was very very clear, so it was a prefect winters day.

It was about 3.30pm when we reached the area that the CP was in and we started to seriously look for the closest place to park the car. As we drove along the A725 we got within 500m of the CP, and Kim said that we should stop and walk in from here, however we drove a little more and come across a cross road, took the at Sheffield Green onto Ketches Lane, and stopped at the top of the till, again about 500m from the CP.

As it was Winter the area was a little boggy, so as we started to walk towards the CP along a farm track we had to watch out for the mud. We walked along the track, and into the field it was really a nice walk in the country. We reached the CP just as the sun was starting to set, which made all the tree etc a nice orangey in the photo’s and we also saw and heard a steam train go by, which was nice. We took the photo’s and returned to the car and stopped of at the station on the way to our over night stop in Hastings.

The next day when we got up we have about 8 cm of snow on the car, so had we visited the CP on the 27th it would have been completely white!!
