This confluence has been visited four times by 11 people, with three of the parties
thinking they were first! It is interesting to note the inaccuracy of each
confluence visit, even though they all had GPS's.
14-Apr-1999 -- While on a combination business and
pleasure trip in the Long Beach, California area last April, I finally made it
to this confluence after making two
attempts during the previous two days. I expected this
confluence to be in somewhat of an urban setting, but was
pleasantly surprised at where I ended up, just east of
Whittier in a very hilly area with roads that
were so winding it made me dizzy to drive them. The area
looked liked a great place to live if you didn't have
concerns about your home sliding off the hillside during
a heavy rain. The home that impressed me the most is in
picture #2, with the lavender colored flowers covering the
hillside. The pictures don't come close to depicting
just how steep some of these hillsides really are. In fact,
the actual confluence sits in one of the steepest areas
around, less than 200 feet north from the edge of Athel
Drive.
