(visited by Alexis Simac and Mom)

20-Nov-2021 -- After discovering the Degree Confluence Project, I started to look for the confluences located around where I live. So when I saw that the one closest to my mother's home was a very easy one to get, I thought this would make a good start.

So the next time I visited her, I showed her the project and she was eager to try. We departed the following day at 13:30 and after about 45 min of driving, we left the D6139 in Sigean at 43.0261, 2.9939 and continued on a tiny (but still paved) road for 3 km, until a convenient place to park at 43.0112, 2.9909. From here, it was an easy walk by a rocky and kinda steep path, up to the plateau of the wind turbines. It was a first, at least for me, to get so close to a wind turbine, and a fun experience. I expected them to be much higher, but from what I've read, these are pretty old models. About 10 of them were working, making a gentle noise. When arriving at the paths crossing on the plateau, at 43.0050, 3.0012, you can see all the turbines in a row, with the farther one being a bit lower in altitude, producing a great effect over the horizon. Weather was cloudy but warm enough

Sadly, as this was quite an impromptu visit, we didn't have any proper GPS units, so we had to do with our smartphones. It was fun pinpointing the 0s, and I finally got 43.000099, 3.000000 displayed. It's only later that I realised this was enough to be 11 m off North. Smartphones GPS accuracy is about 5 to 10 m, so I'll give our accuracy to 20 m. The point lies on a surface covered in gravel and small bushy plants, at about 110 m in altitude. The vegetation is typically mediteranean, with its dy yet lush feeling. The main fauna here were mosquitoes, so we didn't stay too long after taking the pictures. We had time nonetheless to gaze upon the turbines and the area around the plateau.

We walked back by the same path, and sadly our main concern was in hearing distance : the area is plagued by trigger-happy hunters... Yes, even near turbines, fields, houses, paths with families biking... So beware if you plan to visit!

If you are in the area, don't miss out the lakes network between Sigean, Peyriac-de-Mer and Narbonne.
