18-Apr-2011 -- Coming from direction of Pirmasens in Germany, I crossed the green border in St. Germanshof. Only some houses are located here and besides some flags and signs and a memorial, nothing reminds the visitor to cross a border between two countries.
Back in 1950, some hundred young Europeans initiated the first "European Union" here: they organized a symbolic get-together to substantiate their willingness to live in a peaceful and united continent.
From the border, I crossed the nice town Wissembourg and drove towards the confluence. Some cyclists observed me while I entered the brushwood. I explained them what I was doing and they stared at me a bit astonished... well, after 34 confluences and many of those encounters, I am used to it. We laughed together and agreed that everybody should have the liberty to do what he wants, especially in an area like this, where liberty has a certain history.
I took my photos (outside the bushes, otherwise you only see 4 photos with trees...) and turned back to Germany, only some kilometers away and found my way home in the late evening.
