#1: Panoramic view from the point

(visited by Philippe Burtin and Antonella Burtin)

10-Sep-2023 -- We visited this CP on our route to Heidelberg, Germany. The CP has been visited 20 times already. It is the easternmost CP of continental France.

The point is very easy to reach as there is a convenient parking lot less than 50 meters south of the CP. From there only a few minutes are necessary to zero the point and avoid the thorny brushes. The CP lies in the wood and there is only a very short line of sight in every direction.

The charming city of Wissembourg is the most interesting spot near the CP. Founded back in 974 AD, its fate has always been that of a frontier town and a number of war clashes occured around Wissembourg. The most dramatic period was the 1525–1648 period of the European religious conflict during which Wissembourg was ruined and its population almost wiped out. By 1648, only 140 inhabitants remained still living in Wissembourg.
