02-Sep-2025 -- On a trip to and through Southern England, I was able to visit ten confluence points along the 51th parallel. The third visit took place at 51°N 0°, England.
On our way west, now in East Sussex, we neared the confluence point reached from east via Uckfield. We drove around Sheffield Park & Garden to the north and parked the car directly between the road and the pasture gate. We then walked the remaining 430 meters north-west to the confluence point 51°N 0°, on the famous prime meridian. The trail led along field paths almost directly to the confluence point. Only the last 50 meters we had to walk across the pasture, until the required zeros appeared at the coordinate intersection. On both the way to the CP and back, deer were seen at the edge of the forest, direction west. It rained throughout the entire visit. Despite this, the handheld device showed an accuracy of 3 meters. There were no people to be seen and no agricultural activities were taking place.
The third visit of a confluence point during this trip was a quite rainy, what for we needed a warm-up at the pub “The Five Bells”, located 5 km south, near the village Chailey.
