13-Nov-2001 -- Well, it's on to the second confluence in five days! Not that impressed? How about that the other point (37N 121W) is 5300 miles away in California...
I decided to go for the one closest to home today, aided by the realisation that I drive within 6 miles of it on the way to work.
Today dawned bright but cold (40 degrees) quite a comparison to last weeks 75 degree California sunshine, oh well. We set off at 9.30 as after we had visited the confluence we were going to the orthodontist's and that was a further 100 miles away with a 1pm appointment.
I had read the report of the earlier visit and decided that an even easier way was to take the A422 off the A43 and it should be visible from the road.
We parked up and the GPS was suggesting we were about 500 yards away...over a gate in the middle of a field. Rachel wasn't too happy climbing a gate - probably because she had high heeled shoes on, but when it is research!
So, over we go and I stride off, with Rachel lagging behind, after three minutes I announced "we're here" to which the reply was "is this it?". I can't really say I blame her, after all there wasn't a lot to see (pic 1).
Plus there was a stiff breeze blowing and that made it seem even colder. After taking the customary proof shots, of the exact location (pic 2) and wondering if 11 satellites were enough for accuracy (pic 3) it turned to portrait time.
Pic 4 is Rachel looking very succesfully to be freezing cold and pic 5 is me with my Canadian outdoor coat on, I felt quite warm!
So how far was it from home? 43 miles.
