14-May-2015 -- This is the 2nd out of 12 reports reaching confluence points along the 51°N-line. The story starts from 51°N 14°E.
After an hour’s drive from 51°N 14°E, we pulled in the driveway of this confluence at 6:05 AM with our rental car. We parked at a distance of 130 m and had a quick walk to the field of the confluence. The closest we could approach the confluence without stepping into the canola field was 11 m.
At the main road in about 150 m distance, there is a signpost written in German language informing about the degree confluence. Two land surveyors and an innkeeper named Mr. Reitz have calculated and surveyed this confluence on the 31 December 1999. When they surveyed the confluence point they must have drunken too many beers already or they have used a local datum.
This country is all over yellow at this time of the year. We didn’t hang around for a long time at this confluence, since we had planned to visit another 10 confluence points before sunset.
